About Me

My name is Becky Zakelj, and I’m a dentist with a serious case of wanderlust. After spending over seven years living and working in Boston, MA, I decided that it was time for a change. Before settling back in my home state of Ohio, I took off the rest of 2014 on what I call my “international sabbatical.” I traveled the globe volunteering, going on pilgrimage, studying languages, visiting family and friends, and seeing some of the places I’ve always wanted to see. Now in 2015 and back in the US, I look for any opportunity to continue exploring. Join me on my ongoing adventures!

I wish you the best in your life and all the things you do. God bless. Te deseo lo mejor de la Vida en todo lo que hagas. Dios te Bendiga y Guie tu Camino. Amen. 🙂

  2. Hi Becky. Your mom shared your blog link which I eagerly read this morning. Wow…you’re sure adventurous! This makes my cross-country solo adventure (in my ol’ Chrysler LeBaron) in 1997 look like a day trip. I wish you sunny days ahead, and a lot less blistering on the toes. Journey on!

    • Hi Deb- thanks for the comment! Looking at your WordPress site title: are you an Oxfordian too? 🙂 Cross-country in a LeBaron sounds like an awesome trip: I bet that you have a ton of great stories from that. Will have to check out your site. Thanks for the support!

      • LOL! Yeah, I was going to mention how your mom and I became friends, but thought you’d figure that out on your own. Yes, that trip from AZ back to NJ had some unforgettable moments, and there were times when I’d wished I’d had someone there to share them with me. But, then again, they are precious memories BECAUSE they were mine alone. Soak it all up, Becky; even the obstacles you’ll encounter in your travels will enrich your spirit.

Becky, I’ve been reading your posts on FB thru your mom. I don’t think you know who I am but I sing at St.Vitus & Korotan with you mom. So love & enjoy reading about your adventure. Good luck & God speed! After this is over I hope you would consider writing a book too. Hope to meet you once you’re back in CLE. Take care, Kathy Kocjan Maurice

    • Wow: thank you for the encouragement! I never thought about writing a book (although it did just hit me the other day when I was walking that I always used to say that I wanted to be an author when I grew up. I had kinda forgotten about that 🙂 ). Looking forward to meeting you back in The Cleve.

    Dear Becky-

Sending out some words of encouragement your way and if you do not mind I will be asking people to keep you and your hip in their prayers. Your photos and blogs have been wonderful to read; authentic, honest, funny, and inspirational. You’ve got this.

I am immensely proud of you taking this leap of faith into the unknown. The photos you are sending are fantastic, great perspectives and nice layouts. My goodness is the countryside lovely.

Pretend now that I am sending you a great uplifting powerful quote written in Spanish. 🙂 Really just remember on these travels that you “Go with God and God goes with you!”

    Love always, Mary Ann Vogel

  7. Hey Becky,

I just happened on your reposted blog while trying to find out what the covid situation is in Langue.
I forgot what a beautiful job you did in putting this all together. Brings back good memories.
We are trying to put together a trip for October. It is taking a lot of thought and effort to assure some semblance of safety for all. Might be a place for you.
Are you married yet? Mary Ann always asks me that.
Sorry to hear of your mother passing away. Gordon died last summer after a long fight with cancer.
I hear from Helena every so often. She has resumed travel without her companion.
Is there a way i could submit some of your blog to Cape Cares for publication in a newsletter? How would I do that? Love to you…Randy
