Commencing countdown, engines on

Hi!  Welcome to http://www.toothontheloose.com, my new blog.  My name is Becky, and I am a dentist as well as a travel junkie.

Traveling again... DC in September 2013

Traveling again… DC in September 2013

Over the course of the next ten months, I have quite an adventure planned.  Within the next two weeks (!!!), I’ll be leaving the city of Boston, MA, where I’ve lived for over seven years and returning to Cleveland, OH, my hometown.  But not for long!  In March I’ll be boarding a one-way flight to Honduras, where I will begin my travels throughout Central America before heading to Europe in the late spring and eventually to Asia in the late summer/early fall.  I told the folks I’ll be back by Christmas.

I am referring to this journey as my sabbatical rather than just a long vacation because so much of it is going to be a learning experience.  Between language study, dental volunteering, a pilgrimage, and planning a long-term international trip on a finite budget (um, and starting a blog?), the next ten months are intended to be a challenge.  And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

This blog will not only be a platform to share stories and photos of my adventures along the road, but also a way for me to better keep in touch with the dear friends, family, coworkers, and patients that I’ll be missing when I’m gone! Expect some random musical (ahem David Bowie) and movie references , too.  ‘Cause I tend to do that.

Thanks for coming along for the ride!

  1. You want your own space. No oddity there. Safe travels and srečno pot! Love, Mom

  2. Hi Dr. Zakelj! Sean and I were looking forward to bidding you ‘Adieu’ this week as we had our last appointments before we wrap things up here in Boston and move to Denver, CO – and you were already gone! Best wishes for your trip – looking forward to following you here. If you ever stop over in Colorado in your journeys, give us a holler!

    • Hey Heather and Sean! Wow- what a big move! That sounds very exciting for you. You will have to email me details of what is happening with the band. I already miss running into you two at concerts: was listening to Brian Jonestown Massacre on a shuttle the other day and thought of you guys :). Best of luck to you in Denver!
